Silk yarns Silk threads

Silk yarns or silk twists from schappe, tussah or bourette silk in various yarn counts.

Bourette silk is obtained from the cocoons of the mulberry moth.
It does not belong to the so-called wild silks, as it is made from the partially degummed short filling fibers left over from the production of other silks (silk tow).
The spinning process of the short fibers results in a nubby, yet very soft surface structure. The silk glue or bast that holds the cocoon together, and from which it cannot be completely cleaned, gives bourette silk a very characteristic odor. Silk glue has a soothing and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. Allergy sufferers also appreciate it very much.

Bourette silk is used, for example, for nursing pads, for baby as well as infant clothing or blankets.
